Muscliff Governors
Every school has a Governing Body with Governors who work as a team.
Our aim is to maintain and improve the standards of achievement within Muscliff Primary, by providing the best possible education for children in a happy and safe environment.
We do this together with Mrs Wyatt (Head Teacher/Ex Officio Governor) who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school.
This is achieved through:
- Thinking & working strategically to help raise standards.
- Monitoring & evaluating progress towards the school's priorities & targets.
- Supporting the head and staff as well as challenging their expectations.
- Accounting to all stakeholders for the school's performance & for the decisions made.
We acknowledge and strive to achieve the Muscliff Mission by working in partnership with the children, parents, staff, the schools and local community.
Our mission is to maximise the progress of all of our children in all areas so that they become positive, caring, competent citizens and lifelong learners
Who are the Governors?
The Governing Body at Muscliff is made up from Parents, Teachers and people from the local community and Education Authority. It is well recognised that non-educationalists can and should play an important part in school life as Muscliff belongs to the community and the quality maintained and developed at Muscliff affects everybody.
The Governors role is a voluntary post which is acknowledged and respected by Muscliff Primary who recognise that Governor's time is precious. The Governors identify the role as challenging yet rewarding and an opportunity to give something back to the local community.

What do we DO? As governors we meet formally six times a year once every half term to listen, discuss and debate the overall progress of the school, and make changes to policies as required,
The Governing Body at Muscliff have a wide range of responsibilities that cover five key areas:
* employment of staff
* oversight of the curriculum
* use of resources
* welfare of pupils
* up-keep of the premises
Governors achieve the above by opting to join committees where issues are explored and discussed effectively in conjunction with Maggie Wyatt (Head Teacher) and then fed back to the Governing Body.
The committees set up to address the five key areas are:
* Curriculum, standards, community links
* Resource Manageemnt (Finance, premises, personnel)
* Governor's Self Review
* Car Park Review
The Head teacher (Maggie Wyatt) and Chair are entitled to attend all committees as does the Clerk of Governors (Demi Constant) when ever possible to minute the meetings.
We also have a Link Governor (Tracey Farwell) who liases between the Governing Body and the Local Educational authority on issues of training and ongoing development.
Governors at Muscliff are also assigned classes within a given year group. This allows for informal visits to the class room to see first hand how the children are learning in practice. This also provides a golden opportunity for Governors to relate to children and for the children to see who the Governors are, thus showing the children that they are important as individuals. These visits are valued and viewed as a valuable experience bringing a holistic and human approach to governing.
In addition to the above Governors whenever possible make arranged informal visits to the school to observe assemblies and other exciting school events.
What's it like being a Governor?
Being a Governor is a challenging commitment but the benefits and rewards of witnessing first hand how the children at Muscliff are developing into positive, caring, competent citizens and lifelong learners is reward itself.
If you would like to contact the Governing Body at Muscliff or would consider being a governor and would like an informal chat you can contact the school directly or any of the Governors via Demi Constant (Clerk to the Governing Body) on 01202 549654.
