Our School's Golden Rules
We feel that it is important for all the children (and adults!) in the school to recognise their rights and responsibilities. These fair and reasonable "Golden Rules" give some protection to our rights. They are NOT mere impositions. Every class discusses and reviews their own class rules, making sure that they are relevant and reasonable!
Do be gentle - Don't hurt anybody

Do be kind and helpful - Don't hurt people's feelings

Do listen - Don't interrupt

Do work hard - Don't waste your or other people's time

Do look after property - Don't waste or damage it

Do be honest - Don't cover up the truth

Behaviour

In general, our attitude to discipline will be that of a reasonable, caring parent.
If problems do arise it will be our policy to consult and work with parents from an early stage.
As a school we try to have as few rules as possible and those rules are concerned with your child's safety and well -being in school.

* We try to explain to the children why rules exist.

* We praise children for being good, we try to encourage them to value and like themselves and be supportive to others, both in their learning and in social situations.

Within the school we encourage an atmosphere of tolerance and care towards others and expect children to respect their peers as well as adults.

* We expect reasonable behaviour at all times and encourage children to be friendly, helpful and polite.

One of the school's main aims is to promote self-discipline and a sense of responsibility within the community.

Any disciplinary action taken is likely to be one of the following forms - withdrawal of privileges, the missing of playtime or any similar imposition, whichever is the most appropriate.

Our Good Behaviour Policy can be viewed via a link at the bottom of this page.

A copy of the behaviour policy is available on request. Back to top
Attendance
We believe that it is important to be punctual for the start of sessions as this establishes good habits for later life. Closing time for registers is 10 minutes after the start of each session. Children arriving after this time will be recorded as 'unauthorised absent' for that session.
Mornings:

Our official starting time is 8.45 am. Parents may leave their children at school between 8.30 am and 8.45 am.
The morning session for reception, years one and two children ends at 11.45 a.m. For all other children the morning finishes for lunchtime at 12.25pm.

Afternoons:

Children in years Reception, One and Two restart for the afternoon at 12.45 p.m.
Key Stage Two children restart at 1.20pm.
School finishes at 3.15 p.m.
Please be prompt in picking your child up. A few minutes can seem like an hour when all your friends have gone!

We need to know...
Young children are 'handed over' to parents or carers at the end of the session to ensure that they are continually supervised. It is very important for parents to let us know if they are making any changes to arrangements for picking up children.

If for any reason, such as a visit to the dentist or doctor, a child is likely to arrive late for school, please send a note the day before or make a telephone call to cover the absence. Back to top
Uniform
Order forms for sweatshirts, jumpers, cardigans, polo shirts and tee shirts are available from the school office.

All clothing must be clearly marked with the child's name and the P.E. kit carried in a drawstring bag, again clearly marked. This helps us to get lost items back to the owners.
Main uniform
School sweatshirt(s), jumper or cardigan with logo - jade

Trousers/skirts/pinafores/culottes/shorts / leggings - navy blue

Polo Shirt(s) - white

Shoes not trainers please - navy/ black/ brown. (The children should be able to run, play and climb the stairs in their shoes, so no fashion shoes or heels are allowed.)

Socks - navy, white
Tights - navy (but socks are easier for children to get on and off!)

Summer dresses - navy and white, checks or stripes.

Waterproof outdoor coat, gloves, hat and wellington boots for outdoor play in poor weather.

Jewellery
It is recommended that jewellery is not worn, as the school cannot be held responsible for its loss or damage.

Stud earrings only are permitted. The wearing of earrings in P E lessons can be very dangerous and we ask children to cover them with non-allergic tape if they are unable to remove them. Back to top

Assessment and National Curriculum Testing

The progress of all the children in school is constantly under review. We have to assess what the children know and the processes they understand in order to design schemes of work that will carry them forward in their learning. When children come into school in the reception year we use a baseline assessment called PIPS (Performance Indicators in Primary Schools). We continue to update this information by using PIPS at the end of that Year as well as the Foundation Stage profile. All testing is carried out sensitively as a part of normal class activities, so that children are relaxed and able to do their best. The National Curriculum requires that children have to be tested at the ages of 7 and 11 in a more formal way, by the use of Standard Assessment Tasks. This is done to ensure that educational standards are assessed in the same way all over the country. We also use optional SATS in Key Stage 2.

A written annual report for every child is sent to parents in March, giving targets that are reported on during the summer term. Back to top
